Family Support Groups
Free, closed, online support groups for adults immediately affected by the October 2026 incident at CFB Wainwright: the four families who have lost a child, the 39 other affected members, and their families. Online, so you can attend from anywhere in Canada.
Two separate groups
For families who have lost a loved one
A space for partners, parents, adult siblings and adult children who are grieving.
For families whose loved one was affected
For family members whose loved one was affected, but who have not experienced a loss.
If your circumstances change, you are welcome to move to the group that fits. There's no need to apply again.
How the groups run
Each group is co-led by a grief clinician alongside trained peer facilitators. They use a companioning approach to grief, based on the work of Dr. Alan Wolfelt.

Not ready for a group?
That's okay. You may find one-to-one peer support through a member organization, or through your local Military Family Resource Centre, a good place to start.
How to join
If you were immediately affected by the incident, you can join wherever you live in Canada. When you're ready, share a few details and someone will reach out. Filling this in does not commit you to anything.
